Sustainable Manufacturing Alliance – Edge Computing: Bringing Capabilities of the Cloud to Smart Factories

Smart Manufacturing envisions a future where factory equipment can make autonomous decisions based on what’s happening on the factory floor. Businesses can more easily integrate all steps of the manufacturing process including design, manufacturing, supply chain and operation.

To address this topic, the EU Tech Chamber (EUTECH) Sustainable Manufacturing Alliance organised a webinar on March 14, 2023. The topic under discussion was, “Edge Computing: Bringing Capabilities of the Cloud to Smart Factories”.

The webinar started off with a short overview of the organization and a formal introduction of the panelists by Ms. Judith Yong, who is the coordinator of Sustainable Manufacturing Alliance.

The keynote speaker for today’s webinar was Mr. Thomas Poett, Group Manager, Modern Workplace Architecture at Avanade, and Subject Matter Expert at Microsoft. The other two panelists were Dr. Eric Topham, CEO & Co-Founder of T-DAB.AI, and Mr. Bhavishya Bhatt, Senior Business Development Manager at L&T Smart World & Communication.

During the webinar, the speakers discussed the concept of a SMART Factory, which involves integrating devices, products, and humans into a holistic system. They also talked about the Internet of Things (IoT) and how it allows us to collect data and information from various tools, devices, and products.

The speakers also highlighted the importance of digital twins, which involves creating a digital copy of a factory and processing lines to bring together various technologies and analyze them using Artificial Intelligence (AI). They emphasized the importance of edge computing and zero-waste initiatives, which aim to reduce carbon footprints and promote sustainability.

We want to thank our respected speakers for their informed insights on this. Moreover, special thanks to Ms. Judith Yong for moderating the webinar and distributing Tree-Certificates to the panelists.

Above all, sincere thanks to all our attendees – your comments, compliments, and questions. Stay tuned for our next Sustainable Manufacturing Alliance webinar on April 11, 2023, at 9:00 am (CET), about “How does ESG affect Supply Chain and Manufacturing?”.
